 A high-pass filter is an electronic filter used primarily to allow high-frequency signals to pass through while suppressing low-frequency signals and DC components.

The principle of operation of a high-pass filter is based on the property that the reactance of capacitive and inductive elements varies with frequency. When the input signal is a DC voltage, the DC signal cannot pass through due to the “isolation” property of the capacitor, while the higher frequency AC signal can pass through. For lower frequency sinusoidal signals, due to the linear correlation between the current and the rate of change of the voltage, so the current through the smaller, low-frequency signals have a greater attenuation effect.
